Hilary Pecis is a still life painter based in Los Angeles, California. She earned a BFA and MFA from California College of the Arts, in 2006 and 2009. She has done solo exhibitions at places like Rockefeller Center in New York and Spurs Gallery in Beijing. She has also been a part of various group exhibitions at places like the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio, and Maki Gallery in Tokyo.

I chose this artist because of the unqiue flat quality in her still lifes. This flat quality is something I have been trying to incoporate into my own pieces. I really like how she is able to include light and shadow in her pieces even though they are very flat. This is something I want to try to include in my future pieces, because I think that it will help add a little bit of dimension and visual interest to them. I am also inspired by her color schemes. They are really visually interesting.
