Education: Maryland Institute College of Art - BFA in Drawing (2013); Burren College of Art - (2012)

Nic Dyer is a Hudson Valley, NY based artist who primarily makes inventive still life paintings. She graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art on 2013 with a BFA in Drawing. She has been involved in shows all over the world, with an upcoming show in New York´s Hashimoto Contemporary Gallery.

Reaction: I thought it was really interesting how she mentioned how art has been a way for her to create new worlds. I think this idea is strongly reflected in her works.

I chose to focus on Nic Dyer because I really like how colorful and creative her still lifes are. Even though, I have veered away from still lifes of food, it is still a motif/theme I am interested in and might bring back to my work. I think it´s interesting how Nic Dyer has been painting images of cakes so consisently for so many years. I also really like how she has incorporated exterior scenes as well as interior scenes. The combination of the foods with these exterior scenes make her pieces really interesting. I also really love her color schemes, which is always something I am trying to improve in my own pieces.
